Hello out there! Anyone out there that might be able to offer a little assistance and insight on a few occurances regarding my male green iguana 'Merlin', I would be in their debt. Briefly, I adopted a 3 1/2' long iguana which I love dearly. I am now 45 yrs of age and in my early 20's had tried rearing female igs at different times and though I learned many invaluable lessons, I made many mistakes. Now, I have done my research, built a large, rather beautiful enclosure complete with live plants (all ig friendly), with the proper UV lighting, (Mercury Vapor) humidity, And temperature. His previous owner took very good care of him but never really interacted with him much so when I got him he was EXTREMLY grumpy (50 + on the scale). FFWD 6 months: he has socially, come along way. (about 20 out of 50 on the scale). He is very territorial in his enclosure but I seldom keep the doors completely closed. A few weeks ago he began exploring the living room. Now He goes into the kitchen and helps himself to the Meow Mix, which brings up my first question: Is this sudden desire fo cat food bad for him. I will mention I give him a varied diet and abide by the published reccomendations. 2nd question: I Built him a huge outdoor enclosure complete with climbing trees, live bamboo, shady spots, and calm surroundings...and he HATES it! He freaks out when I put him in there. I live in SC so I waited to try it out on him till the temps leveled out. Anyone have any insight on this? He also hates being misted and doesn't enjoy baths or water. I know this is a long post but any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Jason G.
