I am an iguana owner, who has lived and worked with iguanas for about 18 years. Currently I am living with a Cuban rock Iguana Who is approximately 3 1/2 years old. Over the last few months we have been experiencing some unusual shedding issues primarily on the underside of her hands and feet and belly. What happens is her scales beginning to change color as if they are going to shed but nothing ever comes of it. Eventually the outer layer of the shed will come off (but only a single scale at a time) & the under layer still remains. Eventually with enough soaking and cream we are able to get this to come off but I definitely feel this is not normal. We have consulted our veterinarian and at this point she has prescribed Fortaz injections every three days for 27 days. We are supposed to return for a follow-up and a possible culture at the completion of the injections.
All my veterinarian has said at this point is that she does not feel this is a normal shedding situation. Have you ever run across this before, and if so do you have any ideas as to what it might be. Thank you for your time and best regards.
