Then the real blue iguana is a member of the cyclra line. Among them are cuban iguanas and rhino iguanas among a few others that are more rare to find in captivity. Blue iguanas are endangered species. Some breeders have cross bloid mixes blue iguana x cuban or rhino.. these are also more common and in demand as they are hybrid and legal to own.
Cycluras overall need more living space as they are terrestrial by nature.. so the typical green iguana adult cages won't work for an adult.. your looking more towards an area the size of a small or medium bedroom. A cage for night like 8 ft x 3 or 4 ft is ok for an adult but they need more overall room to roam. That being said they do not need 6 plus feet of height.
Cubans typically tame down the best. Their growth rate is not as rapid in the first few years like green iguanas so you can get away with a smaller cage. 4 to 6ft long 24 heigh and length for its first few years. The longer the better. Plywood cage with front sliding or opening doors.
A cuban ig will run you 250 to 350. Its winter so shipping might be a super b###h. Even shipping between southern states.. have to consider sky temp and sorting facilities. Almost all ups overnight packages go to Kentucky regardless of origin and destination.
A good reputable breeder will know when to ship safely. I have never purchased through ty park but I have seen so many people vouch for him.. he is a great person to buy a cuban from.
