Yes, and vaseline is the very best moisturizer. I used it exclusively when one of my igs had adhesive shed. First, soak him in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes. Towel dry him and immediately apply the vaseline.
But it's unpopular because of it's sticky and slimy feel. It stops skin evaporation very well.
If the Vaseline picks up debris, towel it off ad re-apply it. Get good thick coverage on his upper back and spikes.
Don't try to remove the vaseline with solvents or soap, because that will dry his skin tremendously. Wait to remove it when his mystery infection heals.
