I think you should teach your students about invasive species and the problems they create like iguanas in Puerto Rico and the USA.
Teach them about the problems created by a gready pet industry that has no responsibility for the problems they create.
Teach them about the poor care and short painful lives of disposable pets that suffer because they are too expensive to properly care for.
Do these poor exotic animals a favor and keep more people (your students) from even considering an iguana.
I have to kill more of them than you will ever see and that's just at my house. It's a problem in Florida and worse in Puerto Rico.
Teach your students to do something for the planet.
Take them to the zoo.
Also with degrees in the Sciences.
