I have been a single mother on the dole, I am married to a immigrant. I played by the books.
I believe in welfare reform because I see it almost daily being abused. I believe in immigration reform because I know first hand that it is abused but also financially unobtainable for most people coming here from poorer countries.
I believe in our Constitution and equal rights for all our citizens.
While I think most women will tell you it wasn't an anti-trump movement, it sure feels like it was. Perhaps if it had taken place a month prior or after , their messages may have been heard a more cleary.
People just assume we have the right to free speech , the right to protest whenever however we like. That is not so. We do have the freedom to assemble, without a permit for 72 hours in direct response to a current event, after that permits are required.
The protesting and rioting we have seen over the last 2 years are at the top of the rabbit hole which runs so damn deep people are either afraid to look or just unwilling.
Of the women that I know who marched, most are very rational and successful in life. I have heard and seen many messages and the common thread is that they are worried womens voices will not be heard, that we will go backwards, that the victims of abuse or work related issues will go unheard. And many feel forgotten or as if womens voices don't matter.
What I can respect from these ladies is the fact they secured legal permits to protest, and did so quietly without breaking anything or needing to be teargassed.
Pretty remarkable considering the vast number of participants.
That said I support our Military, I support our police and I support those that have truly had their civil rights violated and are willing to speak out against such unjustices...
BB, this may or may not be the place to express your thoughts but I am glad you have. Those of us that have grown to "know: and respect you here will always be willing ears.
Thankfully we live in a country where thats still possible. And thank you for all who have defended our Constitution. And heres to hoping it is honored and defended another 4 years!
