It will not get easier by waiting and as he /she grows , if they bite, will only become worse.
Try picking him up every day around the same time, while things are quiet.
Placing one hand firmly behind the head to prevent attempts at biting. Other hand supporting and controlling around the hips. Close to the body so he cant tail whip.
Move away from his enclosure , because they are often more aggressive near their territory.
Hold him and walk around slowly or sit quietly.
Do this a s often as possible for as long as possible. Never put them back while they are fighting you to get free.
It can take well over a year for them to settle down, sometimes longer and sometimes some never do but you must try.
As far as playing? they dont play. Some will come hang out with you or sit on your shoulder but thats about it. They really just like eating , sitting in front of windows and hanging out in their basking zone.
