My quack herp vet was lethal. Every emaciated iguana I brought to him, he believed needed vit.B and vit.D injections. These igs only needed the IC fluids I asked for. Over one year he killed four of my rescues (each was dead the next day), and I finally figured out the problem. He's just a dog-and-cat vet, too proud to listen to his clients.
Over the years I had two good herp vets within 1 1/2 hour drives. One did not have formal herpvet training, but he had educated himself and was very good with relatively minor herp and avian problems. The other practice was very expensive and could do spays and deal with difficult infections.
Rescuing igs just about shattered my marriage, so I finally stopped doing it.
