My little Stegosaurus has heart disease, which is apparently very uncommon in iguanas and reptiles in general. Get your vet to listen to your iggy's heart - our vet first realized something was wrong when she heard a heart murmur during this year's annual exam. Apparently not all vets do this.
My iggy has been to the vet several times and we are trying Vetmedin and enalapril, but with limited success. The vet is a bit wary of using diuretics because of how those kinds of drugs are processed by iguanas - it can take a toll on the kidneys.
So we are essentially on hospice care. I'm syringe feeding baby food (at the vet's direction). This is breaking my heart. Her mind is still sharp; her body is just failing her :(
I don't really know if earlier detection would've mattered as this is new area for reptile vets apparently. She's only 12. I had hoped she'd be with us much longer.
