I've had one for several years and have had no problems.

Stratospheric acclaims for Spyder Robotics. Mine worked 24/7 for almost a decade, when one thermostat stopped working. I never expected such long, steady, service.
I've had three for over ten years, and they don't break. They are the Herpstat II with 8 feet long thermostat wire probes. The owner told me that they are solid state and test the temperature dozens (thousands?) of times per minute. It seems that by nature, solid-state thermostats don't wear out.
A few weeks ago one of my probes bit the dust. I traded the dead probe with a probe from a woking unit, and the disabld 'stat started right up again. So I just have to get one new inexpensive part to keep my three unit collection working.

I've had a herpstat ND for about 3 years and I love it! It's well worth the investment just for the piece of mind of knowing you're not baking or freezing your iguana while you're at work. And once you get it set up there's no more of the constant trial and error of getting temps right. I still keep an eye on his temps daily and open a vent when it's too hot out, but that's about it.
