Just thinking about topical meds.

The ointment style, as first aid, has to be harder for the vet to clean out of a wound than a cream.

Antibiotic cream can be rinsed away with water.

Now I'm in favor of water-based antibiotic cream for first aid.

Rios blister virus was treated with ear infection solution for dogs -worked like a charm and I believe its oil based but was really thin and cleaned up easily- believe it was called otimax? cant recall for sure tho.

Otimax wouild be a great name for in-the-ear medicine. I bet you are right.

Did you keep any of it for use on other topical problems? I kept my Silvadene for a long time. I wish it were OTC.

A good antimicrobial cream is Silvadene cream (silver sulfadiazine 1%). I use it for minor skin wounds to aid in healing and help keep infection from forming. I'm not sure of the shelf life, but you can get a small container of it from your vet's office to have on hand when needed.
