I live in south Fla. too and have regular iguanas that are friendly. I can warn you, I have tried everything and so far nothing prevents them from eating plants, except other food. You can figure out what they just do not like, (spider plants and purple flowers in my experience) and plant it. If you spend enough time with them, it is pretty easy to recognize which ones are aggressive and when the friendly ones are in a mood. When we pull weeds or trim trees, we pile them up and the iguanas eat most of them, whatever is left is something they do not like. If you do it often enough, with some veggies thrown in,they will ignore your flowers because they are full. We learned to love them because there are too many to make them leave but some are feisty so beware of "new guys". I have one 3foot new guy named tack because he chases me and jumps on me (attacks me) in 2 seconds flat if I look away. Meanwhile, "gramps" has been here over 10 years, is almost 6 feet and Buff like he bench presses, and he eats out of my hand, lets me pet him, and is super sweet. When moody, he chases iguanas, not me. I am careful around the ones who are aggressive for sure. The others are like pets and I adore them and their different personalities. I hope you love them because if you are on water, they are there to stay.|
