Awwww, that's so sweet. <3 |
Can't say why, but whatever works, works. And don't stop doing what you're doing.
I was in a bad abusive relationship for a while when I had a green iguana, her name was Gaz. Poor baby had been mistreated before I rescued her and he was abusive to not only me, but to the animals, too. So naturally, she of course stayed very scared of almost everyone--except for me. I was the only one that would console her and reassure her that everything was going to be okay and that momma would never hurt her. I was the only one that was ever able to pet her and hold her. It took a long time for her to trust me after that initial rescue, and since he was around, it took even longer. But of course she eventually realized that she was my little girl and I would do whatever was necessary for her well-being (I no longer have her because of the guy I was forced to be with, I ended up finding her a new home because I couldn't bare the way he would treat her).
Her favourite thing that would never fail to calm her down was when I would sing her to. I wouldn't pet her at first, I would just stand a few inches away from her, and I would sing. Her favourite song was Manuela's Lullaby from Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles (it's a beautiful song, I suggest you listen to it if you've never heard it before). She would close her eyes and immediately calm down--you could see that tension ease away and she would relax her muscles and stop puffing. Then she would let me pet her and kiss her.
I remember one of the times he had grabbed her and he attempted to hurt her really bad and was yelling. She was so scared. I snatched her away and held her close to me and she nuzzled into my neck. She didn't just hide, it was an actual NUZZLE.
I will always miss my girl. I will always love her with all my heart. It's amazing what bonds you can form with them. No matter what it is that starts it, continue doing it. Don't ever stop. Every time you see those eyes close from relaxed euphoria, don't ever take that for granted...
