My Iguana ate a Fittonia Nerve plant

Hello Green Iguana Society, |
I hope someone can help me out with this as I have had serious trouble finding an answer.
My juvenile green iguana has apparently taken a liking to a brand new Fittonia nerve plant and has been eating it for at least a week from the look of things.
I kept it on one side within his enclosure thinking it wouldn't be a problem as it requires similar controlled conditions, and after a few days I realised tears and bite marks on the tips and edges of nearly have the leaves.
My iguana seems fine and it looked like he was enjoying it. It didn't prevent him from eating his usual daily meal. But I just wanted to know if that's typical, or safe and alright? Should I just not let him near it?
I do know that Fittonia plants are generally safe house plants, non toxic, and pet friendly, but I just wanted to be sure.
Thank you for your time
