Hello Heather, |
I'm sorry to respond with a question, but I'm just hoping for some clarification. The large scale you are referring too is the subtympanic shield? The large scale located on the iguana's jowl of the iguana's left and right side of face.
I'm far from an expert but would like to throw in my two cents. I've read that iguana's will use this scale as a fake eye to ward off predators. There are many older iguana's I've seen with cracked subtympanic shields and other war wounds. Which is very normal. As for one year old, does the iguana have a history that would shed some light on this? Being a rescue there could be many possibilities of abuse, fighting, misplacement....ect.
As for the dark line, I'm curious to read another member's input. Someone hopefully with personal or professional experience. Best of luck to you and your iggy!
