Geriatric iguana losing weight

I have a 26-year-old female iguana, and she is gradually losing weight and muscle mass despite eating (although less than usual), thermoregulating, and shedding. She goes through a "dormant" period every winter, so I thought it might be that again, but this episode seems to be lasting longer and she has lost quite a bit more weight than usual. She looks fine otherwise. Her color is good, and her eyes are bright. Her fecals and urates seem normal. She seems relatively alert for an old iguana, but she has slowed down considerably and sleeps more during the day. Has anyone else experienced this with an older iguana? Is it just part of the aging process as she nears the end of her lifespan :-( |
Thanks for any insight!
