Hello everyone! |
I'd like to ask for your help in taming my iguana.
I've been keeping exotic pets for more then 10 years, even big reptiles like varanus exanthematicus, so i can say then i have some experience with them.
I have a beautiful blue iguana, he is approx 1 year old, i have him for more then 6 months. He's appetite is excellent, he is very healthy and growing nicely.
About his handeling. So far i haven't took him out of his terrarium by force. Every time i open his terrarium i try to be as slow as possible but usually he is very affraid of me and run around in the terrarium, 5 times out of 10. Because of this, i didnt want to shock him more to grab him and take him out of his enviroment. Also i try to spend time with him just to sit in front of his terrarium and look at him, without opening his terrarium.
My problem is that in the last few weeks he started to became more and more confident with himself, too confident for my taste... he started to stick his neck flap out when i came too close to him. And yesterday when i put his bowl of food in he also whiped his tail against me.
Sooo, i'd like to ask for your help. How to continue his taming procedure, because it looks like my patient technique did nothing to help with our bonding. Im affraid that it'll become worse in time and i dont want to fight constantly with him especially if he'll be bigger.
Please let me know your thoughts about this. Thanks! :)
