I'm happy to see a good resolution for his problems!! You must be so relieved. |
It's good you are feeding some fiberous foods.
Uhm, I hope you don't mind when I say your ig is getting too little fiber right now. Even so soon after the incident, he is naturally equipped to handle normal fiberous ig food. A low fiber diet leaves him vulnerable to diarrhea, constipation, and malnutrition (lack of carbs).
You may consider adding mildly fiberous foods to the diet you mention. It's OK to feed some not overly demanding fiber like canned pumpkin, cooked hard squash, collards, and cooked yams, in addition to his normal leafy diet. That would be great!
I don't want to talk down to you as you may know this already: Iguanas get their carbs from un-digestible fiber found in all the leafy greens and fiberous foods they eat. They have hind-gut fermentation, where good bacteria digest the fiber and create a by-product which is easily digestible carbohydrates. Similar to the way cows get nutrition from dry grass.
You likely know this, too: Iguanas are apt to eat anything they find that will go down their throats, like peach pits, panties(yes we have a case of that), pins, hair (long hair is dangerous to their gut), and amazingly, dirt from potted plants.
Most of the rescued iguanas I ever had were attracted to indoor dirt. My own male ig was obsessed with it. He would immediately go to the pot, then twist around to look over his shoulder to see if I was watching. He knew he wasn't supposed to eat dirt LOL. Too much dirt causes impactions.
Whatever you did to cause him to have such a long life should be bottled and sold.
