Hi Nannette! |
It looks like your post brought a lot of us old-time lurkers out of the woodwork!
I haven't been on here since Clyde's death in summer 2014. Her accident--at my hands no less-- was a staggering blow that marked the start of a horrifying year in which half my world died. Losing her was like losing a child until I actually did lose a child. I had my flock destroyed, my garden fail, and each of my beehives abscond. It seemed like I wrecked everything I touched.
Through it all my remaining animals kept me functioning, but my spirit was gone a while. Taking time to focus on them and refine my caretaking brought me back.In some ways I'm still rebuilding though I know some things are lost forever.
Despite my losses, or perhaps because of them, my home is full once again. I caught a young male iggy at a friend's house a few months after Clyde's death, and found this stray rabbit weeks after losing Pancake, the special needs dragon. There are certain people who seem to be here for the creatures and you will likely be called again, although it may not be exactly how you'd expect. Your strength will see them--and you-- through. If nothing else my year has served to reinforce that belief. You are an important part of the life force.
I'll check back in periodically, but with swarm season upon us here in south Florida, there's a good chance I'm out in the field dumping bees on myself at any given time.
I sincerely wish the best for you and your house, and hope to hear from you soon.
Best wishes, Ceej
