After more talk with previous owners I have declared him to be a feral display pet. Not wild caught but not handled more than once or twice a yr for yeeeeeeears. In the past he had moved twice and been to the vet once.Regular handling just wasnt a thing. He has been exposed to 2 faces in that time but mostly just one. |
We really rocked this guy of his worlds axis.
He lived in a room , with a dirt and compost floor on natural limbs and driftwood. Now he lives among human things, vinyl tile floors and coated shelves, with lots of human interaction and sounds. I did take some of his driftwood and attached it to his shelves.
I do not need a cuddly iguana and he is not aggressive but he prefers quiet isolation so it would seem. I hope he adapts to the rhythm of our home but maybe he wont. He eats and basks a little mid morning but otherwise tries to hide or goes to the floor to sulk. I can pick him up and he doesnt flail about or try to bite so thats good.
I am so used to igs that I can carry around or move here and there with zero effort, its a change for me too. The good part of this is that he is healthy, most of my others were sick and in need, making it easy to establish handling for extended periods of time. Like I mentioned in a previous post, this is a lot like bringing in a hatchling that is scared and unsure, EXCEPT this guy is probably close to 15 pounds.
We have a vet appointment June 3rd, I can change that date if need be but mostly its just to establish a vet history and medical baseline.
