U of F Researchers bashing in heads of iguanas

According to the SunSentinel, "a 15 member team from the University of Florida is using a captive bolt gun that sends a bolt into the brain, similar to what is used in the livestock industry. They're also smashing the creatures' heads against solid objects including a truck and boat they're using to track them down" (2018).
Seems like an educated researchers' behavior to me. Does anyone have any solution to the problem other than animal cruelty?

I need someone to contact me because I don't agree with killing these creatures that is inhumane. We need to work on a solution that is better than destoring these animals Please email I want to be involved in the society to help these animals not destroy them.

I'd like information on how we can help too. The origin of iguanas in Florida was as pets. This is like killing stray dogs and cats. Why not adopt some? At least it saves some of them and keeps them out of people's precious gardens.

sadly they are not very protected. this article states legal ways but i think theres some shady areas.

So the trapper is going to take his captured iguanas to a "farm" in Naples where he plans to sell the offspring.

dumb@$$ is just going to end up adding to the problem.
