Need some input on my 6 year old red iggy, Nuova. We live in Florida and he has a custom built cage with ideal heat/lighting that is outdoors in summer, indoors when below 75*. He appears/acts healthy and has a good diet and regular, normal poops daily. He has twice annual check ups and has always had a clean bill of health. Here's the strange part. He *loves* being cold. This boy will seek out the coldest parts of the house (the floor behind the toilet, kitchen pantry floor, etc). While he primarily cage kept he never wants to be in it and is always nosing to get out. His cage is a consistent 80-84* with high humidity, multi level, basking and cool areas. We do keep the door open so he may come and go as he pleases. He heads straight for *cold* spots and seems content there! I've spoken to the vet who says not to worry that it's just his preference. We evaluated and revaulated his housing, lights, humidity and tried dozens of new methods, etc. |
Also, this boy is *the* most affectionate *people iguana* I've ever saw. He sits at the door waiting for us to get home, will sneak out of his cage in the middle of the night and crawl into bed with me, climbs up my leg during dinner to sit on my lap. Just *always* wants to be *on* someone. He shows zero signs of aggression, other than the occasional friendly head bob. He always lays with legs thrown back against his body and loves to lick. He acts like a puppy. He shows no signs of discomfort or problems. Should I just chalk it up to an exception or could this be potentially masking an issue?
We did rescue him from a negligent home about 6 years ago where many of his spikes on his back were missing (which have started growing back! and he was kept in a 10 gallon sterilight container with no heat/light/ food. He was in rough shape and *very* mean!) He was just over a foot long then and is now 3.5 feet and a whopping 9 lbs. Can anyone shed some light on this crazy guy? Thanks. I'm also trying to figure out how to post a pic of him here. Lol
