Posted by Nicole I noticed Madonna wasn't on the list, and am pleased. The names she chose are personally significant (Lourdes) and culturally appropriate (Rocco). Neither is counted among my own favourites, but there isn't really anything objectionable about them. Yes, lourd(e) means 'heavy' in French, but the name stems from a city of Roman Catholic importance. So which celebrity names do you find palatable? Much as I dislike them, I think Katie Couric and Mel Gibson and their respective spouses showed taste and restraint in their naming choices. Cate Blanchett did well, too. My favourite royal names are courtesy of Fergie and Andrew. (Off topic: the Willis girls certainly didn't yield the optimal results of the Bruce-Demi gene pool).

Articles abound on the rather 'unique' onomastic stylings of the stars, and here is another one, complete with photos. I'll grant that most of the monikers are atrocious, but there are a few that are consistantly toted as weird that I feel are perfectly usable, such as Hazel and Phinnaeus (but spelled properly). Even Zolten isn't that bad; with an A in place of the E, it is a legitimate name. I'll unabashedly admit to liking Zahara (also a real name) and Shiloh (preferably on something with fur). The others score high on the ick factor, though.
