Sorry it's been so long. My computer caught a virus and needed some TLC.
Okay, so our goal was to have a boys name and girls name picked out by our anniversary on the 13th. That deadline sort of whizzed by, and we have decided on a boy's name, Cillian Michael, but we are stuck on the girl's name.
In case you're interested in how we decided on Cillian... Okay, so I could not talk T into Atticus, no matter how hard I tried. But I love names with an -us ending. My BF loves the name Lucifer, but I refuse to saddle a child with this. (Also, I may not be a great Catholic, but I'm still a Catholic!
) I suggested Lucius and he immediately loved it. I loved it, too, because it has the classy Latin thing going for it, but also a sort of funky 70s soul vibe. Lucius could be a Roman senator, Lucius Michael could be a modern kid or grown-up, Lucius Johnson could be an African-American pugilist... I like the versatility. Also it sounds cool, and comes from the Latin "lux," meaning "light."
However, we just kept coming back to Cillian (KILL-ee-an), and especially the NN Cian (KEE-an). It's so rad. It means "ancient." Cillian means "war, strife," or possibly "church," and belonged to a 7th century Irish saint. Cian is a name from Irish mythology. My BF and I are both predominantly of Irish descent. Also, in the end we thought Cillian Johnson or Cian Johnson flowed better than Lucius Johnson. The only nn that really works with Lucius, besides the over-popular and therefore not cool Luc or Luke, is Lu, and it has none of the pizzazz of Cian. Also, a lot of people, when we brought up Lucius, immediately thought of the Harry Potter character. Nothing against HP, but I'd prefer people's minds not to immediately jump to a pop culture association when they think of my kid's name. Cillian Murphy isn't a household name yet, and even if he becomes one the name is probably odd enough to avoid trendiness. So Cillian it is. We are very happy with it.
As for the girl's name... *sigh* What to do?
T really, really does not like Angelie, so that is out.
Oh, well. We both like Angelica a lot, but we also both like Marcella a lot as a middle name. For family reasons, we'd like the MN to begin with Mar-, or at least M, but we can't find anything that sounds right with Angelica. I don't think Angelica Marcella sounds right. It sort of almost but not quite rhymes, you know? Marcella Angelica has that pesky thing where the "a" sounds run together.
So, we are sort of stuck. When T comes back into town for the weekend we are determined to sort it out. Your suggestions are welcome!!!
Oh, and just in case (God help me) I end up with twins (multiples run in my family) the other boy's name is Lucius Mark, and the other girl's name is Clementine Eve.
