I imagine I will be well in the minority on this but, sound-wise I like Lyal just fine. This spelling, however, I do not care for at all. My opinion is, no doubt, colored by the fact that my great grandmother was Martha Lisle (pronounced like Lyle) and she always went by her middle name. She died long before I was born, but Grandma told me about her as I was growing up and I became used to the name; I always liked that it was different. I think Emmeline would work a bit better than Emmalyn for a middle name.
