Reading one of the papers this week, a food writer called Xanthe Clay was talking about her children...her son Hector and her daughter Campaspe, with the comment that "pretentious names run in the family".
I was so intrigued I Googled Campaspe and she turned out to be the mistress of Alexander the Great! I also checked out one of my name books and they said it means "cunning serpent".
So there's another one for your lists... I suspect it's pronounced Cam-PASS-pay, but I am always willing to be proved wrong!
