Posted by Tina Ritrovato (for Abbie) As a lot of you know, I have a granddaughter that suffers from Juvenile Diabetes. She found out at the ripe old age of 3, and spent the entire week of Christmas in the hospital. She is now 6 and has to have her blood tested 10 - 12 times daily, and gets as many as 8 injections daily. Abbie at 3 years old (when diagnosed) Anyway, to make a long story short, on Oct. 1st, the Juvenile Diabetes assoc. is having a walk for a cure and guess who has to walk this mile? hee-hee I am asking for any donations to sponsor me on this walk. It is a worthy cause, and anyone can feel free to join Abbie and me in this walk, and meet Abbie and her little friends, but if not, any donation is appreciated. If anyone is interested in making a donation, please make your check payable to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or ”JDRF” for short and in the memo of a check please put for ABBIES ANGELS and you can mail to me: Tina Ritrovato ....OR.... Abbie today... You can also E-Mail me at TRfromMO@aol.com (link above) and let me know if you are interested in helping. Please follow the link below to learn more about this worthy cause. Thanks in advance for any consideration. Tina Ken Jones will be joining the "JDRF" walk, and will also be taking donations. Ken is a long time Hawg Hawler club member and club sponsor. (letter from Abbie’s parents) March 8, 2006 To anyone who is willing to help our cause: We would like to take a few minutes of your time and let you know about our five year old daughter, Abigayle. On Christmas Eve 2003, when she was 3 years old, our world as well as Abbie's was turned upside down. Our daughter, who we had vowed to always keep from harms way, was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. We currently test her blood sugars 6 times a day and also she receives 5 - 7 injections of insulin daily. A tough way to go for any child and our Abigayle is no different. Like any good parents, we want to do whatever is possible to help Abigayle and the millions of children just like her, and we realize that through funding JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Foundation) for worldwide research and education about research is our best chance for a cure. Since that horrible Christmas Eve spent in the hospital, we have learned a few things about Juvenile Diabetes and if the only thing that comes out of this letter is to educate, then we are thankful. Juvenile Diabetes is currently the second leading childhood disease behind Asthma afflicting 194 million people worldwide. This disease strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependant for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. What we are convinced of and what will work our lives toward, is a cure or at the very least a much easier way for the children to live with the disease. Our family and friends are on a mission and with your help we can achieve a goal of raising $10,000.00 between now and October 1, 2006. The Juvenile Research Foundation has their annual Walk for a Cure on October 1, 2006 and we intend to be there with Abigayle and as many donations as we can raise. We will be hosting several fundraising events between now and Oct 1, to help achieve our goal. Currently we are working hard selling pens and collecting tax deductible donations both monetary and/or donated items for our raffle drawings at our fundraising events. With 100% of the proceeds going to JDRF we would be honored to receive any (tax deductible) donations from you or our company. We will provide acknowledgements to the public every step of the way. In closing, please feel free to contact us with any questions concerns or ideas that may improve our efforts in this most uplifting mission. All donations can be made directly to “JDRF” under Abbie's Angels Jeff & Aja Ritrovato
