Backing Board?

Sorry if this is no longer true, but I read the sketch/backing board mail-out thingy on your page, and sorry, I'm not really versed in art in ANY way, so is a backing board something I could walk into an art supply store and ask for? How big would it be? sorry for the stupid questions.
Btw your art is magnificent. Some of the covers for Y are bar none the coolest covers I've EVER seen. Truly good stuff.
