Posted by Salamander The only graphic title I'm reading at the moment is Y, although a friend has loaned me what I think is the whole run of Sandman - it's sitting on the couch in a stack of supermarket bags awaiting my attention. For novels, I've just finished a binge on books from the Black Library, which prints tie-ins with the Warhammer/Warhammer 40,000 settings. I've just read STRAIGHT SILVER (military SF by Dan Abnett, who's started writing novels for the BL after building up a sizeable comics pedigree; this book is part of his ongoing "Gaunt's Ghosts" series and is excellent), FARSEER (SF-adventure by Bill King, author of a popular series of "slayer" fantasy novels, no relation to Buffy) and SILVER NAILS (a series of fantasy stories by Kim Newman, mostly involving vampires; not too bad although the happily-ever-after ending wasn't quite what I was expecting). I'm currently browsing through the Dirk Gently books for fun before I get all lit'ry and read Faulkner's LIGHT IN AUGUST which I've been meaning to get around to for ages. Oh, and I'm also flipping through (the translation of) an etiquette guide for gentlemen published in Italy in 1528, which I picked up 'cuz I saw it on the counter in Castlebooks and it was $1 and looked interesting, plus I'm writing a piece at the moment featuring lots of catty science-fictional aristocrats so it's interesting to have an insider's thoughts on how a privileged courtier should think and act.
