Colleen, we decided not to get insurance coverage as we felt our home was well built and did well in the last hurricane a few years back.When you look at what could be stolen, it really did not make any sense to us to pay the high premiums to simply replace a stolen microwave or costco sound system, it is way cheaper to simply buy new ones. I know there will be horror stories coming your way about the need to carry insurance but in the end it is a personal choice that only you can decide.
