I had a very special dinner arranged on my birthday at Soley’s new place in Rincon, “Daniels Beach Club”. Daniel had waiting a private candlelit cabana on the beach under the stars. Finding stars in August can be challenging, however the stars happen to be out that August night. For added ambiance, Daniel set up a small portable contained and moveable fire pit on the beach. I will have to say the fire was a little warm being that it was the last week of August and it was probably 85 degrees with a heat index of a 100 but I thought the fire was very "cool". It was the first fire I have seen on the beach in Rincon in the 12 years I have been going down to Guayabitos. My brother and I have walked the beach many nights looking for that elusive fire. The fire did add that extra touch of ambiance to the starry night, especially with the sound of the surf breaking on the beach. There was not a soul walking on the beach that night, which is the norm in Rincon at night. This gave the feeling of being on a private secluded Island and I was the VIP.
Daniel had personally prepaid a 5 course event, which included Champagne and a fine bottle of vino tinto…okay a few Don Julio’s thrown in because I could.…it was #55 and I had just left Petra’s birthday bash. Petra and I both share the same birthday. I was warned not to eat at Petra’s because of a “pending surprise”, but I couldn’t resist the excellent feast Petra had put out.
When I arrived at Daniels Beach Club and saw the set up, The Italiano (mother’s side) couldn’t resist the festive setting and fine Italian Food. I did not hesitate to over indulge. All the especially prepared Italian courses were excellent, cooked to perfection and the service was outstanding. Daniel personally waited the table which is an experience in itself. Daniel’s personality never ceases to entertain and amuse.
I do not think that Daniels Beach Club is officially open yet, he maybe, but I know he will be ready by the time gringo season kicks off. However during construction, if you are walking by on the beach, and you are in need of hydration, stop by and say HOLA and check it out… I am sure Daniel will be accommodating…that’s just Daniel. Oh, and by the way..Daniel and his family are doing all of the improvements and construction.
The new location is sounding pretty exciting and will be offering something no one else is doing in town. When Dad (Bob Howell..AKA “EL Famoso”) was alive we would always entertain the thoughts and dreams of new ideas for a business in Guayabitos, of course all of this while sipping from his smooth and fine tasting barrel of Tequila. Those are where the best ideas would originate, Dad always had an idea.….one of those ideas was a restaurant that would offer micro brews with an actual beach bar and grill for those happy hours and beautiful sunsets>>Snooze you lose….. but guess what….Daniel also being a man of vision will be making this happen and pouring his own Micro Brews from his stainless steel vats which will be enclosed in a climate controlled glass enclosure, which can be viewed from the main restaurant. In addition to the restaurant, Daniel has constructed a beach bar and a beach grill steps from the beach. I can already smell the shrimps on the Barbie >> get out the Don Julio brother!
Daniels Beach Club is about 50 yards north of the Los Cocos> on the beach. “Daniels Beach Club” is painted on beach wall in blue and white, you can’t miss it. As I have mentioned I came from Petra’s birthday bash to this surprise on the beach…so>> driving and walking directions are a little sketchy>>>>SO! In the immortal words of Ronald Regan…”I don’t recall” on this festive nighton how to get there from the town side..I only recall the Beach entrance.
When you are down this season or if you are resident and looking for an alternative to the regular establishments we have all grown to enjoy, especially Hinde Y Jamies, Mateja’s, Bravian Gardens, Crazy Nelly’s, David’s Place and the Pina Colada (just to mention some of my favorites) and you are Taco’d and Fished Out…… then check out “Daniels Beach Club” on the beach. However, being that is in close proximity to the Los Cocos.. you may want to consider reservations. I understand that the La Penita Location will continue to operate.
