We like San Juan de Los Lagos, 75 miles before Guadalajara. Go to the center of the city, to the square. The church here is the second most visited one for pilgrimages in Mexico. A nice hotel is La Nueva Hacienda on Vicente Guerrero #31 close to the town square, and the hotel has underground parking..
