Day of the Dead / Día de los Muertos
Opening Reception Free to the General Public
Xaltemba Restaurant & Galería
November 2, 2008
6:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M.
Xaltemba Restaurant and Galería cordially invites the community and friends to its annual Día de los Muertos Celebration. The celebration will kick off Xaltemba’s second season in La Peñita with a traditional Mexican fiesta. Music will be provided by Los Bombones, a mariachi trio from Guadalajara.
For this celebration, it is traditional to have an Altar installation dedicated to a dearly departed family member or friend. This year the altar is dedicated to La Peñita resident, Herbert Ojeda. There will be special delicacies from his native state of Yucatan courtesy of his widow Lucy and family. There will also be homemade tamales, the traditional food of Día de los Muertos prepared by Xaltemba kitchen cooks, Anahi Reynoso and Lola Peralta from La Peñita.
Xaltemba Restaurant thanks the community and its friends for making their last season a huge success. Co-Owner Eddie Dominquez stated, “This season we are delighted to be back with Chef Max Farinelli who has designed a fantastic menu. Max comes to us from Lake City, Colorado where he and his wife Laurie own and operate “Luna”. Their restaurant offers an eclectic mix of American Continental and Northern Italian fare. Max is an experienced chef having worked in some of the finest Italian Restaurants in Miami for over 10 years.”
Max began his career as a young man in his hometown of Turin, Italy helping his family run a very successful restaurant and bar. He is very excited to be in Jaltemba Bay, “La Peñita is wonderful and I am very happy to be a part of the Xaltemba family. I feel fortunate to be able to work in such a beautiful and creative atmosphere and I am looking forward to a busy and successful season here at Xaltemba”. Max is very energetic with a no-nonsense, quality oriented approach to food, and looks forward to using many of the local ingredients in his dishes.
Max is a futbol (soccer) aficionado so don’t be surprised to run into him at one of our local sports bars or on the field playing on Sunday mornings!
We hope to see you soon.
