Posted by Cathy Taggart I particularly agree about the Church needing to give more support to pregnant women. Not only that, but I think the Church should also be more actively concerned with the conditions in our society that can make parenting so difficult, or even burdensome, for many people. Here in Adelaide, a couple of times a month (according to our parish bulletin) there is a prayer vigil outside our main abortion clinic. They would have more credibility with me if they held a prayer vigil - or a meeting or whatever - Thanks once again, Michele, for adding your voice to the conversation. CATHY

Thank you Michele for your thoughtful and insightful comments. You yourself are obviously a genuinely humble person, but I would certainly describe your thoughts as being more than "just humble opinions!"
outside parliament house, to demand that the "powers-that-be" give more support to families, especially those who have a child with a disability, or some other exceptional difficulty.

: Cathy,
:
: I read your comments yesterday but wasn't
: sure what to write in response. Clearly
: abortion is never an easy issue but it is
: also never black and white. There are many
: many examples where one could say in clear
: conscience.... there but for the grace of
: God, go I.
:
: While the Church continues to say under no
: circumstances to abortion.... the realities
: of the human experience mean that sometimes
: we find ourselves at crossroads we would
: prefer not to encounter.
:
: My own preference would be for the Church to
: offer a number of different support
: mechanisms for pregnant women, spiritual and
: material. Then and only then may She be in a
: place where She can engage with the women
: who are struggling with the decisions they
: may make. And even then, She must refrain
: from attempting to see everything as black
: and white.
:
: Just a few humble opinions, of course.
:
: Regards
: Michele
