Posted by Kevin Bates The gospel calls us to both repentance and forgiveness, and to proper restitution. Much energy is being expended in the Church to bring about the healing needed after years of suffering. Efforts like the tawdry 60 Minutes piece, full of inuendo, ignorant and in some cases unanswerable questions, simply exacerbate the pain both of the victims of abuse and of those in the Church trying to deal with the consequences of these actions. Anything for a story eh - especially after the recent feeding frenzy the US media has had at the expense of the Chruch there. Carleton and crew went looking for a story that would titillate, disturb and damage. Their whole burden was destructive rather than healing. I saw one writer today who suggested that instead of Big Brother's double eviction on Channel Ten last night, they could have focused the Big Brother eviction process on the 60 Minutes mob. I pray for us all, for the Church and those who lead us at this time of great pain.

Last night's effort by Richard Carleton and his oily team as they tried to discredit Archbishop George Pell over alleged cover-ups, was just about the ultimate effort in sleaze tv. In the Church we have much to answer for and much healing to do with each other over the wounds suffered at the hands of church personnel over the years.
