We thumb our noses at the UN and anyone else who dares question our right to behave just as we like. All that counts are votes on polling days. Here we are at it again - a few people escape and the whole population of the Woomera detention centre are punished - lawyers are refused access, phones are disconnected and no one is allowed to know what is happening inside. What the hell are we running here? Certainly not something worthy of a country professing democracy and the values of justice that democracy claims for itself.
