Posted by Kevin Bates Just a few years' ago, the same men who are now plotting the overthrow of Saddam Hussein and who are seeking unsuccessfully to take out Bin Laden and the Taliban leadership, were negootiating happily with the Taliban for the rights to pipe gas and oil across Afhghanistan. Now these same people are the enemy because they don't fit the US's game-plan anymore. The sycophants running the Australian Government simply follow the US line - Prime Minister Howard recklessly talks up the possibility of an attack on Iraq - which will again conveniently mask the fact that we are persecuting here people seeking asylum from the Iraqi regime we now seek to overthrow. What game is this? And our public fall neatly in behind and follow. The US continues its meddling in the affairs of countries such as Venezuala, Guatemala and Colombia, and expects everyone else to keep quiet or to support them. Camp X-Ray in Cuba means that they can continue to hold suspects from Afhghanistan indefinitely, and claim that they have no jurisdiction to try them there under US Law. Again Australia falls into step as our Australian suspects are also held their indefinitely without trial and without any rights - as one letter to today's paper points out, Slobodan Milosovic is accorded more rights than any of the inmates at Guantanemo Bay. Rule of Law is now sacrificed to the US's pathetic ego-needs. They are the country building the largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. What gives them the right to do this over and above other nations? Their wicked arrogance is unbelievable - and yet we still meekly collude in it. And in the middle of it all are the people.....the mere debris of the big-boys' ego-needs. God help us at this dangerous time.

The US, led by a clown of a president, is becomign daily more dangerous to world peace. As their economy dips and loses its gloss, and their ability to impose their own myopic economic standards on the rest of us seem to be faltering, they go looking for enemies to kill off - just reassure themselves that they are the biggest kids in the school-yard.
