Posted by Kevin Bates on August 20, 2002, 10:14 pm Often with the best of intentions and the most compassionate of motives, we are still destroying the smallest members of our family so that someone else might get well - these embryos coudl vote in eighteen and a bit years - given the chance! It's difficult and the arguments for research sound humane and compelling, but what of these little people who are fast frozen with no voice! A friend recently told me he had seen his daughter when she was an embryo - (they had used the IVF program) - and he was no under no illusion about the status of an embryo - it became his beautiful daughter! Enough said I think.
Well the boys and girls in the big house in Canberra will argue the toss about the future use of embryos for stem-cell research. Despite the total lack ot evidence of the advantage of stem-cell material over and above adult stem cells, and despite the lack of any verified healing process so far performed as a result of this research, we look like heading into the world of fantasy where we thnk we can play God.
