Posted by Kevin Bates One commentator this morning on the ABC noted that on the night of the attacks last year, something like 300,000 child soldiers went to sleep - many of them hungry - having spent the day fighting in some of the 240 or so wars being waged at the time. It's hard to get perspective on such a spectacular show of violence as the September 11 attacks - but a broader and deeper perspective we must have if the world is ever to know some peace.

Here it is - the eve of Sept 11 - and our media is saturating us with the images of last year's attack on the US. The Pope and other commentators are urging us to look beneath for the causes of these event adn to repsond to these causes and not just to the events.
