The arrogance of his position is deepens with each of his utterances to the point where even his own family members have taken flight rather than wear the shame of sharing his name. Wouldn't it be a great thing for our nation if we could engage each other in dialogue around these issues rather than simply reacting to points of view that differ from our own. I think perhaps that such a dialogue belongs in dreamland at the moment.

Following a long period of careful preparation, the leaders representing the Members of the Religious Congregations of Australia launched a proposal for a just treatment of our asylum seekers. At the National Press Club in Canberra this proposal was launched and it details carefully and thoughtfully a path to a more just, speedy and economic process for the treatment of asylum-seekers.
