Posted by Kevin Bates Such violent, judgemental vitriol does absolutely nothing to further the cause of the pro-life movement and is in itself profoundly anti-life. It shows no understanding of the circumstances of the people concerned and not once iota of compassion or charity. While the church's position on abortion is clear and unambiguous, and rightly so, the church's position on the way we walk with each other when we find ourselves in highly stressful situations, and even when we make decisions that may not be the wisest, is also very clear. Compassion, love, and when required, forgiveness, are our responses - not this feral vicious and anonymous cowardice. Let's pray for people faced with awful decisions for the courage to choose what is most truloy life-giving. I pray too for the couple accused by this dreadful letter, that they have the support that they need at this time.

A disturbing report in today's Melbourne Age tells the story of a woman who had had her baby induced at 20 weeks because it was anencephalic - it had no brain. This child had been much anticipated and wanted, and subsequently the couple concerned had two healthy children. They have recently received an anonymous letter from anti-abortionists accusing them of murder, naming them as worse than terrorists and wishing that they will burn in hell.
