Posted by Amanda I was driving home from work (all upside down as we musos like it!) and listened to ABC radio reproting on a speech given by Nelson Mandela regarding the looming war in Iraq. It was SO very refreshing to hear a world leader speak without fear or favour. He said, in no uncertain terms, that Bush is interested in one thing only: Iraq's oil. They produce over 60% of the world's oil and America (the greatest consumers to ever inhabit the planet...not that we're much better, I might add!) can't wait to get their hands on it. The whole thing makes me sick to the stomach! Fiat Lux --Previous Message--

Good morning Kevin

: Australia Day has come and gone and so have our
: troops. It's hard to imagine that they
: are there just to put pressure on Iraq or
: just to have a look around! It's hard to
: come to terms with Colin Powell's amazing
: statement that the US has a
: "sovereign right" to invade
: Iraq; it's hard to come to terms with our
: national leadership and their mixed
: signals about their intentions.
: Thank God for the voices who are increasingly
: raised in support of a more measured
: response to the Iraq situation - a
: situation which really demans deeper
: analysis and understanding - there are
: many levels to the US interest in Iraq -
: the more significant hardly getting an
: airing. Iraq's oil for instance, the
: strategic value to the US of having a
: puppet government in the area, to name
: just two. These are hardly acknowledged
: in the current US rhetoric.
: We pray for peace and that the voices of
: reason will be heard in our own country.
: Germany and France, Russia and China are
: all expressing their opposition - I wonder
: what our problem is and what our real
: agenda is too!
