Posted by Kevin Bates As the leaders in the Catholic Welfare and Health sectors have promptly pointed out - this budget is indecent, and is only geared to increase the divide between the wealthy and the poorer parts of our community. The only goal seems to be a budget surplus - and they expect praise for this. We are in a sad cynical time - and are led bya Government whose monumental self-interest overshadows all other considerations.

The cynical nature of our Government is yet again demonstrated in Peter Costello''s budget announced last night. A tinny little tax-cut to those earning less, and a bigger tax cut to those earning more, to be offset by higher health-care and education costs - and the Government expects us to swallow the mealy-mouthed rhetoric that masks these realities!
