John Howard's introduction of the death penalty as a debating point, is a classic instance of the way the man works - as one friend of mine described him - he's like itching powder for the Australian community - he throws it around, we start scratching and all these sores start to bleed and before you know it we are back in the dark ages discussing whether we should re-introduce capital punishment!
