Posted by Kevin Bates Congratulations to Bob Carr for standing firm in the face of the petty politicking of Lucy Turnbull and her mates at Town Hall, and the strident protests of some members of Sydney's Jewish community. Cognratulations to Allan Ramsay for reproducing some of Judy Davis' wonderfully courageous speech at Sydney University the other day, which in part supported Hanan Ashrawi as the recipient of the peace prize. And shame, great shame on Lucy Turnbull and her mates for the opportunistic, petty and prejudicial stance they have taken. Their behaviour is a disgrace and part of the juggernaut of misinformation and silence with which the people in power, here and in the US, contrive to keep their ideological views dominant in our political and social life.

Tonight the Palestinian activist and politician, Hanan Ashrawi is to receive the Sydney peace prize from Premier Bob Carr. Welcome to her and prayers for some progress in that tortured maelstrom that is Palestine/Israel.
