Posted by Kevin Bates No doubt, Pilger puts his own spin on things, but it's hard to see the facts he presents being disputed. The totalitarian righteousness of the super-power government and its friends such as Australia, are steadily making this world a more dangerous place, rather than a more peaceful one. The rhetoric, repeated often enough, sucks people into itself and absolves them from making a difference, or frightens them into agreeing with the views of the powerful. There is another voice, one that is heard in the truest heart of a person, the voice that resounds down the ages from the heart of the gospel. This voice calls us to allow love rather than fear, truth rather than ideology, justice rather than self-righteousness, to have the last word. Advent has begun, and again we wait for this Word of Love to take flesh among us. We can't afford to wait passively, but rather like an expectant mother, we must prepare actively, with energy and hope, so that the Word is born with unmistakable clarity. Otherwise, the voices of those who prefer violence and fear, will still have their day. I ache for the world we are creating for our children.

John Pilger's piece on SBS television tonight, will no doubt be slated by the powers-that-be as irresponsible, biased, dangerous and so on. He examined the history of this year of war and terror, and came to some frightening conclusions about the way that the war in Iraq was engineered and marketed.
