Posted by Kevin Bates They echo my own feelings sometimes, as Baghdad's lethal fireworks continue, as the Gaza and Israeli forces continue their deadly cycle, as the Australian political leadership continues on its pitiful way, propping up untenable positions, and not brooking any serious comment on the real world. Then there's the Church, seeming to slide more into the hands of ideologues who preach a glib certainty as their religion, and who frown on imagination and the adventure of faith - the very stuff of the gospel. Then there are the youth, a couple of large groups I've worked with recently. They hunger for and listen for the Spirit who breathes within and among us, and they refresh a hope that sometimes grows stale. Through their questions, their pain, their personal and family struggles, they look with great passion for a way forward and have cried with delight as they have felt that God was able to emerge from within their lived stories. Where is the Love? I'm glad for the young people who have recently shown me something of the answer!

The pop group Black-Eyed Peas" have an excellent song out at the moment - "Where is the Love?" They muse on where the world is going in the midst of the violence and betrayal that marks our world so clearly right now. They recall the invitation to practice what we preach, and to turn the other cheek and they cry out to God for a way forward.
