Posted by Kevin Bates By what right does the US endorse the annexation of territories occupied since the 1967 war? What lack of political wisdom leads the US to align itself so completely with one side of a conflict that has been going on for generations, and which now seems destined to continue long beyond our lifetime? Palestinian leaders see this move as the very end of the peace process. It's impossible at this stage to see a path to peace being possible, with such partisan decisions being taken at high levels. I wonder when we will learn to process things more justly.

This week's endorsement by President Bush of the Israeli plan to annex some parts of the Palestinian territory raises all sorts of questions. Why at this time when things are so fractious in Iraq, would the US want to alientate the Arab world further?
