Posted by Kevin Bates At the same time we are absolutely screwing the Government and People of East Timor in the way we refuse to negotiate a fair deal on the Timor Sea Oil and Gas reserves. Our behaviour raises many questions about the Prime Minister's favourite pastime of "mateship" - which obviously only works in favour of the powerful and the convenient friends. Any relationship that demands a certain generosity of spirit is regarded as a nuisance and to be fobbed off - we won't even talk to the Timorese as frequently as justice and courtesy demand. Our "national interest" is all that matters - in other words, our unfettered pursuit of wealth. One seriously wonders about the possibility of human progress!!

So our fearless leader is visiting California next week to lobby Governor Arnold Schwarzeneger for a chance to get our hands (BHP-Billiton's to be precise) on some new gas producing project worth potentially billions of dollars.
