Posted by Kevin Bates All this in order to collaborate with a United States Government hell-bent on the invasion of Iraq, even though all the best intelligence available to these governments indicated the lack of Weapons of Mass Destruction that were given as the main reason for going to war. Simply put, the US had to vent its spleen in spite of the best intelligence of its own operatives. September 11 2001 had them looking for a target they could knock off with impunity. The Iraq war was more a turkey shoot than a serious battle. The serious battle has been engaged since George Bush announced the end of hostilities in May last year. The net result of all of this is a world more awash with terrorism than ever, more dangerous than ever, and more frightened than ever. As Wilkie points out, the US agenda is economic, political and ideological domination, which it surely will not be able to sustain. Its blindness to cultural sensitivities and its naive assumption that it is in the right and to quote Bob Dylan, that "God is on our side", echoes the simplistic righteousness of the fundamntalists it so denounces and opposes - (Having once supported many of them in many of their adventures!) Wilkie is running as a Green candidate in the Federal Election in John Howard's seat of Bennelong. I recommend Wilkie's book with enthusiasm.

Andrew Wilkie resigned from the Office of National Assessments (ONA) just days before the assault on Iraq in March 2003. His book "Axis of Deceit" is a stunning exploration of the level of lies and misinformation perpetrated by the US, Australian and British Governments prior to the Iraq invasion.
